March 2002
On Wednesday March 20, the SWOAFP teamed up with the Ohio River Valley Chapter of the Risk & Insurance Management Society (RIMS) at the U.C. Kingsgate Conference Center. Over 50 were in attendance to hear Dr. Bill Wilson, Senior Economist with Ernst & Young, Chicago. Dr. Wilson’s knowledge and media experience was obvious, with a lot of audience note-taking during his lively presentation, followed closely by a questions/answer period with a lot of business and personal finance-related questions. We extend our thanks to Dr. Wilson and Ernst & Young, who sponsored the meeting.
April is the SWOAFP’s traditional month for a SWOAFP Members-Only tour of a local business. This year will be no exception. On April 17 we will be touring the Fairfield armoring facility of O’Gara-Hess & Eisenhardt Armoring Company, the world’s largest and most experienced manufacturer of armored vehicles for private, corporate, government and military use. . Humvees, other military vehicles, and private-use sedans and SUVs arrive at the Fairfield facility directly from manufacturers or customers. Vehicles are stripped and rebuilt piece-by-piece with various types and strengths of O’Gara armor depending on customers’ needs.
This promises to a fascinating tour – something the general public does not have the opportunity to see. Plus, DINNER IS ON US, directly following the tour at The White House Inn.
Again, the tour and dinner are for SWOAFP members only, and dinner will be compliments of the SWOAFP. SPACE IS LIMITED. SWOAFP members are asked to RSVP for either/both the tour and dinner, and only if you are certain you will attend.
The SWOAFP May 15 meeting will be the annual NACHA/ACH Update by Jerry Meyer, Provident Bank. Back by popular demand, Jerry will bring us up-to-date on NACHA electronic payment initiatives, NACHA Regulations and Operating Guidelines. We are in the midst of rapid evolution in the electronic payment environment – keep updated with Jerry’s presentation. At this writing, the location for the May meeting has not been selected, but should be announced by the middle of April.
The SWOAFP Nominating Committee is nearing completion of putting together the slate of officers and committee chairs for SWOAFP’s 2002/2003 operating year. If you are interested in a position or helping out on a committee, please contact any Board member. We welcome volunteers!
Watch for the SWOAFP’s Spring Survey to be emailed during the month of April. It is very important that you complete and return the survey. The SWOAFP Board uses the survey results to determine topics to be presented at the monthly meetings, meeting locations and general policy matters.
